No Pets Allowed:

Top 10 Albums:
1. Watch the Throne – Kanye West/Jay-Z
I know a lot of people were disappointed that it wasn’t “classic hip-hop” but I’m a big fan of genre-crossing especially in rap. The sound is incredible and even though no one can really relate to luxury rap, these guys have made one of the most quotable albums to date).
Fave Tracks: Gotta Have it, Niggas in Paris

2. Torches – Foster the People
I walk to class listening to this album. It’s immediate feel good music.
Fave Tracks: Houdini, Life on the Nickel

3. Mylo Xloto – Coldplay
This one’s sweeping the Grammys ’13 for sure.
Face Tracks: Paradise, Hurts Like Heaven

4. Bon Iver – Bon Iver
There are few things in this world that are as hauntingly beautiful as Justin Vernon’s voice
Face Tracks: Holocene, Michicant

5. Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming – M83
This is the background music to my dreams. My only regret is not finding out about them earlier.
Fave Tracks: Midnight City, Raconte-Moi Une Histoire

6. EP – Chidish Gambino
I realize that he put out Camp but I feel EP so much more. It’s only 5 songs which is perfect because if you listen to 1, you’ll end up listening to all 5. This is what got me hooked onto him and I spent the majority of the early part of 2011 trying to get people to listen to him.
Fave Tracks: My Shine, Lights Turned On

6. Neighborhoods – Blink 182
Surprised and delighted by their mature sound. I do miss the potty humor but everyone grows up eventually and that really shows on this record.
Fave Tracks: Natives, Wishing Well

8. Soul Punk – Patrick Stump
Patrick Stump is easily one of the most underrated and undervalued musicians out there. He wrote every single word and note on this record and played every single instrument. Incredible.
Fave Tracks: Allie, Coast

9. Vices & Virtues – Panic! at the Disco
If you combined the burlesque feel of their first album with today’s indie-pop, you pretty much have the sound of this album. There’s some really pleasant ornamentation throughout the record if you listen closely.
Fave Tracks: Nearly Witches, Oh Glory

10. Take Care – Drake
I didn’t like Drake’s first album at all. This album changed my mind completely. Maybe it’s because I’m a little older, but I really feel the whiny, introspective lyrics on this album. The production is fire, courtesy of 40’s brooding sound and the title track with Jamie xx/Rihanna is dope.
Fave Tracks: Headlines, Marvin’s Room

LeAnn Grimes:

My Top 10 Albums of 2011
1. Mike Quinn – Magico
2. The Parting Gifts – Strychnine Dandelion (Late 2010 but still amazing)
3. Favourite Sons – The Great Deal of Love

5. Slow Club – Paradise
6. Bright Eyes – The People’s Key
7. 1,2,3 – New Heaven
8. Middle Brother – Middle Brother

– Songs (no particular order)
Spencer & Hill – Less Go! (Porter Robinson Remix)
Mord Fustang – Lick The Rainbow
Skrillex – Reptiles Theme
Dillon Francis – IDGAFOS
Alex Winston – Sister Wife
Awolnation – Sail
Deans List – Dear Professor
Ellie Goulding – Lights (Bassnectar Remix)
Avicii – Levels

This is hard to do since I listen and love so much music. But that would be considered a top 10 maybe.

As far as albums are concerned I thought Paper Diamonds “Levitate EP” and Childish Gambinos “Camp” were pretty tight. F& the Machine & M83 had some very chill and relaxing albums in addition.

I hope this gives you an idea of what I enjoyed this year.
