Holborn Circuit (Stephen Schmuldt) is perhaps a new name to some but do not let that deter you. Circuit shows promise, and he recently decided to remix a personal favorite of mine, Chelsea Lankes’s “Ghost”.
What Holborn Circuit is able to do with the original is exciting to say to say the least. He is able to alter the original tone by supplementing its airy feel with energetic instrumentals. One section in particular, around the 1:49 mark, is laced with galvanizing drums that lead into surprisingly good breakdowns and progressions.
The interesting thing that Circuit does is that he does not envelop the original’s sound completely into his vision for his remix. Instead, he allows the desperate tone of the original to seep through repeatedly, only to counterattack with distortions, and uplifting sounds that challenge the listener to guess what will happen next. It is because of this multi-faceted approach that the remix is so intriguing.
Check out the song and let us know how you feel. You can find more of Holborn Circuit’s remixes and info via his Facebook and Twitter respectively.
