So I’m a little late to this one, but I finally got around to listened to The Dean’s List’s latest mixtape, The Drive In. The Boston hip hop group has begun to get on the hype train. Their live shows are supposed to be awesome, and lately, they’ve performed with big (well big for indie) names such as Brenton Duvall and XV. The Drive In is a very solid mixtape. It probably won’t wow you, but it shows promise of good things to come. By far the standout song for me is “Dear Professor.” This song has gained quite a bit of popularity on Hype Machine. “Dear Professor” has a melancholy hook, but the lyrics uplifting and hopeful overall. I’ve had this song on repeat a few times now, and I believe it’s got some staying power. (That awesome hook samples The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young.”)
Hopefully I’ll get to see The Dean’s List perform live. In the meantime, I got “Dear Professor” on my playlist, and I can’t wait for the next mixtape.
