Album Stream & Review: Das Racist – Relax

Like millions of other Americans, I don’t buy many CDs but I will go out and buy the first album from hilarious hipster-hoppers Das Racist, named after this clip from Wonder Showzen. Victor Vazquez, Ashok Kondabolu, Himanshu Suri sure deserve our money, entertaining us the past few years with Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, “a track that will last the ages“, two free critically acclaimed mixtapes, intelligent think pieces, a shocking Strokes cover, funny Twitter feeds, and now here comes RELAX.

RELAX drops tomorrow, September 13th via Himanshu’s Greenhead Music label, and its full of highlights. Here’s the first single and one of most bizarre music videos in awhile, “Michael Jackson” with the stupid catchy chorus ““Michael Jackson, one million dollars, you feel me?!”

The album is a flurry of pop culture references with star production from Diplo, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, and Yeasayer’s Anand Wilder, which means it’s poppier and synthier than their raw rap mixtapes. El-P, who gave us the sick “Drones Over BKLYN” stops by for some killer bars on “Shut Up, Man” and Danny Brown continues his headline-grabbing month by helping out on “Power”. Other choice cuts include smooth opener “Relax”, spastically moving “Rainbow in the Dark”, the verses in “Middle of the Cake”, and chill synth-laden “Brand New Dance”.
