As you’re all probably aware Lil Wanye‘s Tha Carter IV: Deluxe Edition leaked yesterday. The album has already gone triple platinum in downloads alone. Stream the entire album below right now:
Now let’s talk about it and give out some downloads. Wayne has made references in interviews and some of these songs about Tha Carter IVbeing his last album, but I don’t think any of us take him seriously, much like Jay-Z‘s retirements. Speaking of Jay, much ado is being made at the blossoming Wayne vs Jay rivalry. In H.A.M. Jay throws a veiled shot at Wanye and friend (and possible lover?) Birdman: “I’m like really, half a billi, nigga? Really, you got Baby money? Keep it real with niggas, niggas ain’t got my lady money”. Wayne counters back on “It’s Good” featuring Jadakiss and Drake: “Talkin’ ’bout Baby money? I got your Baby money, Kidnap your bitch, get that how-much-you-love-your-lady money”. Oh yeah! Shots fired! Tha Carter IV: Beyonce Kidnapping Music!
“Blunt Blowin'” is where Lil Wayne goes hardest, rapid-fire lyrics over a banging beat. There’s a reason “Blunt Blowin'” has been a top five Twitter trending topic the past 24 hours as it’s circa-jail Wayne at his best:
The best surprise of the album is the return of Andre 3000. 3 Stacks and Tech N9ne rap for a minute apiece on Interlude, sans Lil Wayne. He’s also hidden on “Outro”, instead giving the mic over to Bun B, Nas, Busta Rhymes, and Shyne:
The radio ready songs are the lowlights on Carter IV. “How to Love”, “How to Hate”, and “So Special” starring John Legend will invade the airways but I’m already getting sick of them, while “6 Foot 7 Foot”, “She Will” and “John” (remix by The Hood Internet here) have been available online for awhile now. Regardless, while it’s not on par creatively with Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, or Jay and Ye‘s albums in 2011, let’s hope Wanye comes back and that this isn’t his last.
